Spring is well on its way in the Pacific Northwest. Frosty mornings are giving way to sunny afternoons, cardigans and sneakers are replacing down jackets and rain boots, and daffodils have begun their brief parlay with lawns across the state, signaling the end of a mild winter and heralding the arrival of the “new.” Letting this seasonal rebirth inform your interior design choices can result in a bright and breezy manifestation of Spring in your very own space.
Since Spring is a time for renewal (need we mention Spring cleaning?) it’s a great time to reevaluate some of your more antiquated home decor, like aging blinds, drapes, and shades. Here are three clear signs that your window coverings need an upgrade this spring:
1) Your blinds are warped. As older model vertical blinds begin to age, the can bow and sag, putting additional stress on already aging cords and resulting in a messy window treatment that likely has already ceased its primary function. Replace these with a simple cellular shade for a comparable upgrade.
2) Your drapes are frayed and faded. Over time, it’s inevitable that your drapes will acquire damage be it from an overeager toddler, a sharply clawed kitty or just the passing of time. Upgrade to a decorative swag for an updated interpretation of a classic drape.
3) Your shades are discolored. Another giveaway that it’s time to replace your shades is prominent sun bleaching (which can weaken the shade) or yellowing around the edges. Consider instead a Roman shade in a bold pattern to liven up your space.
